The Kelly Runway

By Natalia Ysursa

It is a lovely Friday afternoon on a rare warm day in this particularly arctic month of November, and as I am prouncing through the halls, I come across a young lass whose strut through Freshman hall is nothing less than her very own catwalk. Her one of a kind locks trail behind her as she walks, and her endearing outfit truly stands out in the crowd. I am left with no choice but to snag her out of class to take her picture, and as I ask her if she is willing to be featured in this issue, a wide smile stretches across her youthful face as she looks down at her wardrobe; her light coffee dress, her trendy vest accessorized with a cherry-pink scarf and her winning leopard-print flats. Bailey Russell is exceptional in not only her outgoing and loveable personality, but also in her sense of style. When asked how she would describe her style, she responded "Unique and original, but not too crazy." After a moment, she exclaimed, "It's just… me!" and it is this brief moment that may describe Bailey's style as a whole; it's Bailey.

It is not long after this fabulous encounter that I approached Mike Kalange, a senior here at Bishop Kelly, whose style is quite unique as well. I took note that his wardrobe was one of originality every day, and so when I asked him if he was willing to be featured for the Kelly Runway, he nonchalantly responded, "Sure." So the next day I took his photo, as he sported an original button-up shirt and his inimitable vans, that so very well incorporated the primary colors. On a day-by-day basis, Mike's unique personality is painted through his wardrobe so very well. To describe his style, Mike looked to his companion Cary Richelieu and laughed, "Effortless." Cary's outfit was also notable itself, as on a day most refer to as "Casual Friday," he sported a snazzy jacket and white shoes, looking as though he had just stepped off the runway and into Senior hall. "How would you describe your style?" I asked Cary. "Shoot…" he began, as he thought of an answer. "smooth" he eventually responded. These three characters are certainly trendy people at Bishop Kelly, who manage to let their personalities shine through the often limiting dress code.
